The Asian-International Trade and Investment Association would like to share an important update on Thailand–China economic cooperation. On May 11, 2026, Department of Foreign Trade under the Ministry of Commerce held discussions with representatives from the Wuhan Municipal Commerce Bureau, People’s Republic of China, to strengthen bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, and exhibition activities.
The discussions highlighted Wuhan’s strong interest in utilizing Thailand as a strategic production, logistics, and distribution hub for expanding into ASEAN markets.
A major highlight was the presentation of the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ), widely recognized as “China’s Auto Valley.” The zone serves as the headquarters of Dongfeng Motor and Lotus Cars, with an annual production capacity exceeding one million vehicles. WEDZ is also a leading center for Intelligent Connected Vehicle (ICV) technology and one of the world’s largest commercial autonomous driving service hubs.
The Wuhan delegation also introduced plans to expand Chinese EV brands into Thailand and ASEAN markets, including Lantu premium electric vehicles, Mengshi off-road EVs, Lotus luxury electric sports cars, and Xpeng AI-powered smart vehicles.
Chinese enterprises also expressed continued investment interest in Thailand. Wuhan Guide Infrared, which already operates an infrared camera manufacturing facility in Chachoengsao Province, discussed Certificate of Origin (C/O) procedures to support regional business expansion. Meanwhile, FRL Automatic Equipment showcased robotics and smart production line technologies while seeking potential business partners in Thailand.
Representatives from the Department of Foreign Trade reaffirmed Thailand’s readiness to facilitate investment and support Wuhan enterprises in using Thailand as a manufacturing and distribution base for ASEAN markets.
Both sides also agreed to establish direct communication channels and organize future business matching activities to strengthen networks between Thai and Chinese investors and entrepreneurs.
The Asian-International Trade and Investment Association will continue monitoring developments closely and provide members and entrepreneurs with updates on new business opportunities arising from Thailand–China cooperation.
